To provide opportunities for recreation for Working Journalists and their families, the Press Club was founded In 1963, For many years it was housed in the APUWJ office building. As the strength of journalists increased many fold in Hyderabad City, we felt the need to get a separate building of its own. Through the efforts of APUWJ, the then Chief Minister Mr. Chandrababu Naidu allotted a sprawling bunglow at Somajiguda in 1998. Now, the Press Club expanded its activities for the recreation of not only journalists but also their families. For the last few years, the Club has been organizing film shows and picnics. It has a good Gym also. The Hyderabad Press Club is affiliated to the press clubs of Delhi, Kolkatta, Bangalore and Chandigadh. Emulating the example of the Hyderabad Press Club, the District Units of APUWJ formed press clubs at Vijayawada, Guntur, Karimnagar, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Cuddapah and Anantapuram and raised their own buildings. Similar endeavors are being made at various District towns.
