Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) and the Andhra Pradesh Newspaper Employees Federation (APNEF) condole the death of K L Kapoor, the General Secretary of All India Newspaper Employees Federation (AINEF). In a statement here on Friday, D Somasundar, President and Y Narender Reddy, General Secretary of APUWJ and Ambati Anjaneyulu, President of APNEF said Kashmiri Lal Kapoor, who was General Secretary of the All India Newspaper Employees Federation since its inception in 1960, devoted his life for the service of the newspaper employees in the country.
Kapoor, who was 83, died in Delhi after a brief illness. He joined Hindustan Times as Sub-editor at Delhi retired as News Editor in 1985 after serving the newspaper for 35 years. He also served as General Secretary and President of the Hindustan Times Employees Union for several years.
The statement said that he was instrumental in getting the Working Journalists (Conditions of Service) Act 1955 amended to include the non-journalists and other newspaper employees in the Act. His diligent and pains taking work in preparing Memoranda submitted to various Wage Boards for non-journalists went a long way in getting several benefits to them from the recommendations of the Wage Boards. The void created by his death cannot be filled easily, the statement added. They extended their sympathy to the members of the bereaved family.
