The Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) contributed Rs. 25,000/ (RS. Twenty five Thousand only) to the Chief Minister Relief Fund for relief and rehabilitation of people affected by the recent floods in the districts of Kurnool, Mahaboobnagar, Nalgonda, Krishna and Guntur. A delegation of the Union consisting of K Sreenivas Reddy, Secretary-General, K Amarnath, Secretary, M A Majid and D Krishna Reddy, National Executive Members of the Indian Journalists Union (IJU), Y Narender Reddy, General Secretary of Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) met the Chief Minister K Rosaiah on 7th October 2009 and presented a cheque for Rs. 25,000/-.
The Union in a letter to the Chief Minister said the APUWJ has already given a call to the journalists to participate in the relief and rescue of the flood affected people. Several district Units of the Union collected relief material, both in cash and kind and distributed to the needy people in the flood affected districts. The Union expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life and large scale destruction of property in the recent floods. The Chairman of the Press Academy of AP, D Amar who accompanied the delegation handed over a cheque equaling to the one day salary contributed by the staff of the Academy. The Chief Minister appreciated the gesture of the Union and the staff of the Academy.
