APUWJ gave15 lakhs more towards Mediclaim
 

Hyderabad: A delegation of the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) handed over a cheque for Rs. 15,00,000/- ( Rupees fifteen lakhs only) to the Commissioner of Information and Public Relations Mr. C Parthasaradhi here on Thursday, 20th August, towards the share of working journalists for the premium of the Mediclaim Policy of the United India Insurance Company for the year 2009-10. 

This is the second installment. Earlier on Tuesday, 18th August, the Union paid Rs. 30,00,000/- (Rupees Thirty Lakhs only) to the  I&PR Department towards first installment. It may be mentioned here that the Andhra Pradesh Government in association with the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) is implementing this welfare scheme for the last six consecutive years. 

About six thousand journalists in the state joined either renewed or joined a fresh in this scheme this year by submitting their share of premium to the  APUWJ. While the journalists contribute Rs. 771/- the Government is subsidizing to the extend of Rs. 1129/- per journalist for one Lakh rupees health insurance for self and three members of his family.

The Union leaders said it was the second installment, the remaining amount, if any, would be given to I & PR Department after submitting all the applications to be renewed in the month of October.  The delegation consisted of   D Somasundar, President, Y Narender Reddy, General Secretary of APUWJ and Yadagiri, Secretary of Hyderabad Union of Journalists (HUJ).
