Hyderabad: Indian Journalists Union and Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists on Saturday met Governor of Andhra Pradesh over attack on Siasat Journalists in Hyderabad. The leaders of IJU and APUWJ in a petition to the Governor strongly condemned the brazen attack of MIM MLA and its cadre on Siasat Editor and its journalists. In a petition to Governor the leaders urged him to intervene in this issue and make sure the guilty are brought to book and ensure protection to journalists in the state.

We would like to bring to your kind attention the attack on the Editor of Siasat, Urdu Daily published from Hyderabad and two of its journalists on Friday night by some activists of Majlis – Ittehadul –Muslimeen (MIM) at a function hall in the Old City of Hyderabad. The Editor of Siasat, Mr. Zahid Ali Khan along with some journalists went to the Function Hall to attend a marriage of a journalist working in Siasat Daily.
Some activists of MIM who also came there for the marriage raised slogans against Mr. Zahid Ali Khan for his writings in his paper and attacked him and other journalists accompanying him. In the attack Mr. Zahid Ali khan and two more journalists were seriously injured and admitted in a Private hospital and undergoing treatment. The attack on Zahid Ali Khan is an attack on the freedom of the press. If they are aggrieved by the writings of Siasat, there are other avenues for redressal. They cannot physically attack the journalists. This is not the first time to attack Mr. Zahid Ali Khan. There is an impression that had the police acted promptly in the earlier incident, it would not have recurred.
We request your Excellency to intervene in our behalf and instruct the concerned police officials to take prompt
and stern action against the culprits.
