Hyderabad: APUWJ congratulated the recipients of various categories of Best Journalists Awards instituted by the Government of Andhra Pradesh announced by the Best Journalists Awards Committee for 2004, 2005, 2006 and 2007 on Thursday. 46 journalists were selected for the awards for four years in various categories. In a press release issued by President and General secretary of APUWJ hailed the awards committee for its speedy work.
The recipients of VR Narla Life Time Achievement Awards Potturi Venkateswara Rao (2004), G S Varadachary (2005), I Venkata Rao (2006) and K Sreenivas Reddy (2007) are closely associated with the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) in the last five decades. G S Varadachary served the Union as General Secretary for the years 1964 to 66 and President in the years 1980 – 81.
K Sreenivas Reddy worked as General Secretary of the Union during the years 1985 – 90 and President for the years 1990 – 94. He is still leading the working journalists trade union movement in the country as Secretary – General of Indian Journalists Union from 1992 to till date. Both Potturi Venkateswara Rao and I Venkata Rao were closely associated with the Union.
We are happy that the stalwarts of the working journalists movement in the state and eminent journalists and editors who served the profession with distinction were honored with VR Narla Life Time Achievement Awards. We also congratulate the Awards Committee for completing their task with diligence and speed. We request the Government of Andhra Pradesh to present the awards to the recipients at an early date as these awards are long overdue.
