Journalists Mediclaim premium fixed as Rs. 900.

Hyderabad, August 7:  The state government which fixed the premium to be paid by the working journalists at Rs. 1000/-  for Mediclaim Insurance from the present Rs. 771/- was forced to reduce it to Rs. 900/- on the intervention of the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ). The Union leaders met the Commissioner of I&PR and protested against steep hike in the premium and demanded its reduction.

For the last six years, the total premium for the one lakh rupees Medi-claim insurance was pegged at Rs. 1951/-. While the journalists paid Rs. 771/- the remaining Rs. 1180 was born

APUWJ demands independent enquiry into Pandey’s encounter

Hyderabad, July 5: The Andhra Pradesh Police announced on 3rd July that Azad, a top Maoist leader and another unidentified person were killed in an encounter on the previous day, in Adilabad district. It was now established beyond doubt that the other person was Mr. Hemchand Pandey, a freelance journalist from Uttarakhand, who was contributing to various Hindi newspapers and periodicals over the years.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Mr. K Sreenivas Reddy, Secretary-General, the Indian Journalists Union (IJU) and Y Narender Reddy, General Secretary, the Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ), said that there were doubts about the circumstances leading to the death of Mr. Hemchand Pandey, a freelance journalist. Scribes urge Governor to lean on Government

Hyderabad, May 31 (NSS): The Governor Mr. E S L Narasimhan assured a delegation of the working journalists organizations of print and electronic media that he would study the recommendations of the Press Council of India (PCI) on the brutal police lathi charge on the journalists in OU Campus and suitable advised the government within his constitutional limitations.
